For this commission I built three bookcase units for a space the clients had recently renovated and designated as their library and office. The bookcases are constructed entirely of solid rimu and have been finished in a dark coloured hard-wax oil. A beading detail has been used around the outer perimeter of all of the bookcases to add a touch of classical design without adding too much ornate detail. The shelf heights on the left and the right unit match with different shelf heights used on the centre unit. This gives the unit as a whole symmetry left to right while also providing a central focal point. Custom made half splayed profile skirting and scotia have been used on the unit. Instead of using a standard hardware skirting profile I also continued this same custom profile around the entire room finished in the same dark hard-wax oil as the bookcases.
