FREEMANS BAY FURNITURE

This project covers two separate commissions for the same clients completed approximately a year apart. For the first commission I built a custom door to separate the office and lounge space. The timber for the door was provided by the client and is elm that was grown and milled on a family friends farm approximately 30 years ago. Being able to work with elm was nice as new elm is not readily available as the Dutch elm disease has decimated a lot of the English elm trees. The door has an elm frame and three panels of coloured acrylic. I also built new door jambs from the elm and a custom door handle. The elm has been finished in a hard-wax oil. For the second commission I built a fitted wardrobe in the master bedroom. To optimise storage and make the most of the space the wardrobe has been fitted to an entire wall in the bedroom. The wardrobe has a his and hers unit on each side of the bed including built in drawers, additional cabinets that span above the bed as well as a headboard unit. Pieces of elm left over from the door construction were used in the wardrobe. These include in the door pull details and as a lip on the top of the headboard.
