no cheap & nasty products

Kitchens are one of the hardest working areas in a house. Unfortunately they have become an area where some of the worst quality products are being used. I like to bring craftsmanship back to the construction of kitchens and only use high quality products that will stand the test of time. I don’t use particle board core melamine or mdf core melamine as these simply don’t last well in kitchens.

A lot of modern kitchens that are less than 10 years old have areas in them where moisture has caused areas to particle board or mdf to expand and fail. I also don’t use plastic edge banding which is used to hide the edge of the particle board or mdf, it doesn’t wear very well and in my opinion looks cheap and nasty.

high quality products

I only use quality products which means either solid timber or high-quality plywood. The timber can either have a natural finish or be painted. The advantage of solid timber is that it doesn’t fall apart like particle board or mdf when it comes in contact with water and it can be refinished time and time again. A high-quality kitchen carcass will last for decades, whereas a cheap kitchen is often thrown in landfill in not much more than 10 years. A good quality kitchen does cost more, but by the time you buy the cheap kitchen 3 times in 30 years it’s not so cheap anymore.

Craftsmanship

Most modern kitchens are built at the expense of craftsmanship. They are built from low-cost materials and built as quickly as possible and as a result don’t last well. I like to bring craftsmanship to my kitchen construction with the attention to detail of a furniture maker, not a high-volume kitchen manufacturer.
