For this commission I built a number of pieces of furniture for a client from the reclaimed rimu he provided. The reclaimed rimu came from a woolshed that was demolished on his property. I also restored a Sandow wool press that was in the woolshed and converted it to a bar leaner by adding a top. The wool press is over 100 years old and was built in NZ from solid rimu. I removed and stripped back the iron work on the wool press and painted it black. The rimu was sanded back and oiled being careful not to remove the original manufacturers sign writing. Castors were added to the bottom with skirting installed to conceal them. I also constructed four matching bar stools to go with the wool press bar leaner as well as an outdoor coffee table.
